It has been a true blessing to have been "Cheffie" at The Wilson School.
As most of you are aware, the decision has been made to discontinue the lunch program in it's current format and to introduce an outsourced delivered program.
It is my intention to follow what is in the best interest of the school,it's studnets and families. I have made my position and feelings known. Should the decision be reversed I would be honoured to remain the Wilson Kitchens' "Cheffie"

Garbagecan Gourmet
Everything went to the dogs last weekend... Cheffie catered the Westminster Dog Show. There were so many pampered pooches, with lots of yummy people food provided by Cheffie. The Penn Plaza Hotel is where all of the pre-judging takes place and is the original "Hotel for Dogs" In the middle of all the canine chaos Cheffie had a very humbling experience. Upon leaving the hotel one night there was a man going through garbage cans in search of dinner. Cheffie and her crew offered him some fresh sandwiches and other munchies, that we had packaged up for a local soup kitchen. He got a bag full of roastbeef, chicken, and ham and cheese sandwiches. He looked disappointed and when he was asked if he'd like anything else he replied"I was hoping for bologna..it's my favourite." Everyone's first reaction was to laugh, then to think how ungrateful...then it became sad when the reality hit home. Being homeless and hungry did not make this man undeserving of choice, and the right to have likes and dislikes. Humbling indeed. Speaking of going to the dogs.. the correct answer to "What did Hercules eat this week" is D: All of The Above"
Come see cheffie during snack those of you who guessed correctly for your chocolate chip cookie

From Plate to Palette
Paint your plate with a variety of textures and colours to create a palette to please your palate.
When the weather is cold and the sky is grey and gloomy, we think of comfort foods as being hot and creamy. Studies have shown that adding crunch helps release endorphins which both warm and cheer you up. So pair up a steamy cup of soup with a crisp salad, add some carrot or celery sticks to you sandwich plate. Hummus and pita chips will create a perfect blend of smooth and crunchy. Cheffie and Jr will make sure your "paint box" of fresh ingredients to help you create your masterpiece meal. Have a delicious day!

At Cheffies Table
It's said that the kitchen is the heart of the home, and I certainly want everyone to feel at home in the Wilson Kitchen. We've made some changes in the prep areas and dining room, so here is a mini culinary GPS to help you navigate Cheffie's Cafe. The 2 cupboards next to the dining room door are still being tidied, and by next Monday 12/15 they will house coffee cups, papergoods and all items used for decorating and entertaining for birthdays and other occasions like parents night. Space will be left to accomodate any items brought in for events. Also in these cupboards will be pens, markers, and scissors. The shelves above Cheffie's desk are where all the snack items live. The milk and juice reside in the double decker fridge next to the stove. Plastic utensils, napkins and such are on the shelves directly across from the steam table and salad bar. Take out containers and food storage bags are located under the tray table. Every Monday a basket of coffee packets, sweetener, and a qt. of 1/2 and 1/2 are placed in the faculty room. Saltines and apples are available from snack through all lunch periods in the dining room. Should you require any item not mentioned above, please ask JR or myself and we'll be happy to oblige. As always we welcome requests and suggestions, and will keep you posted as the sauce thickens at Cheffie Central.

Healthy Holidays
Below is a link to an intersting study on school lunches:
http://www.childtrends.org/Files//Child_Trends-2008_11_17_RB_SchoolFoodPolicy.
Christmas cookies, pieces of pie, so many temptations! Not wanting to be a grinch, Cheffie suggests having your favourite traditional treats, and creating balance by making healthy meal choices, especially at lunch. Fresh fruit is available at snack and lunch daily. Choose carrot or celery sticks if you need some "crunch" on your tray. Craving something sweet? 1% chocolate milk can satisfy the sweet tooth, and makes a great dessert with a crisp apple or ripe banana. New low fat, low sodium snacks and menu items will be appearing soon, and please send in suggestions and request and we'll do our best to accommodate.
Speaking of Christmas Cookies..."Hearth to Heart" is our project that will bake
cookies for several area charities, see the Weekly News for details.
Watch this space to keep up with our kitchen capers.
